the big 2-5

Well, it happened. I turned 25! Halfway through my 20's! The birthday was nice; full of mom-ish activities and Panera.
When I was in high school, I wrote this list of goals for myself. Apparantly, I chose the ripe age of 25 as the cut-off point to have met said goals. At the time, I'm sure it sounded old and matronly and forever away. At any rate, I gave myself several years to accomplish these goals and now I'm 25, so I'd better re-assess! Shall we? A HIT is accomplished and a MISS is, well, a miss.

*Black belt in tyk-won-do, MISS (Um, ok, this was a summer fling. I took classes once, never to take them again. I think I got to 2 stripes yellow. It was fun, but not I-can-do-this-every-day-and-get-a-black-belt kind of fun)
*Go on a mission, MISS (Matt and I would love to go on a mission one day but I was married by age 21 so....)
*Be fluent in sign language, MISS (I can sign 'Love one Another' but so can you, so it doesn't count)
*Be fluent in spanish, MISS (I actually really want to learn Spanish still so maybe I should have asked for Rosetta Stone for my birthday)
*Become a Registered Nurse, HIT! (Sweeeet! 1 for 5)
*Be an aerobics instructor, MISS (This is also something I still want to do, hopefully in the very near future)
*Build a home in a 3rd world country, MISS (You can tell who my role model was at this point in my life. Kara Oates is my cousin and she was currently doing this. I wanted to be just like her apparantly! I would still like to travel to a 3rd world country and give medical service one day. Now that we can fly there for free this is not a bad idea....)
*Married in the temple, HIT! (I love that I even specified exactly what temple I wanted to be married in, too. Because Bakersfield is so close to Washington DC it makes perfect sense to get married there. I am so glad we got married in the St. George temple and it has become my favorite one.)
*sell products, MISS (WHY I ever wanted to sell stuff to my future friends is a mystery to me. Lame goal.)
*Do another pageant, MISS (no. no. no. not again.)
*Take voice lessons, MISS (I like it when Matt sings. He has a really good voice. We will let him take the voice lessons.)
*Have a pottery wheel and black room, MISS (I must have just watched 'Ghost' and thought pottery was cool because when I wrote these goals I had never actually worked on a wheel. I guess the thought of my future self throwing clay pots was enough to land a spot on the goals list. And the black room....it's just not practical now with digital everything. Sorry old self, but no.)
*Make a baby blanket for my kids, HIT (I made Jake and James each a baby blanket among other things. I like this goal and I think I'll keep it.)
*Hike Mount Timp, MISS (This would be awesome. And difficult. I would love to one day.)
*Be in the Oprah Audience, MISS (I'm still bummed about this one. I gave it an honest effort! I have the Oprah show's number saved in my phone but it's nearly impossible to get through! Now that it's her farwell season I think the chances are looking even bleaker.)
*Be on the Price is Right, MISS (Now that Bob Barker is gone, who cares?)
*Go on a cruise, HIT! (This was so much fun. A must-do-again vacation!)
*Learn to sew well, HIT! (I'm a decent sewer and actually love it. Yea for another HIT)
*Learn to play the organ, MISS (The piano would be a practical start....)
*Go skydiving, Uh, MISS (Excuse me, old self. You couldn't pay me to do that nowadays. I have kids and they need a mom.)
*Run a marathon with my husband, HIT! (St. George Marathon, wahoo! but seirously I'm never doing that again.)

6 out of 21. I think the moral of this post is to make shorter term goals. I have changed a lot since my high school days and as you can tell many of the things I thought were cool back then aren't really my thing anymore. Cheers for 25!

How cool that you have this to look back on! That's fun. And good job on the goals you have accomplished, don't worry, you've got plenty of time (boys allowing) to get the rest of it done.
I remember in college you mentioning wanting to go sky diving often, yeah, never in a million years would I do that now!
Hope 25 is a good year for ya.

I am laughing so hard right now!!!My personal favorites were "Sell Products" and "Have a pottery wheel." Your comments about each MISS are awesome. That is sweet that you still have that original piece of notebook paper. Was Brooke the one who inspired you to be in Price is Right? I totally recorded that episode onto a VHS tape. Anyway, thanks for the laugh. Hope you had a great birthday!

Those are very ambitious goals for a teenager! I'm glad you got the important ones down :)

I love this post. That is so fun to see. I think that the Price is Right is still a good goal that you should accomplish. Drew Carey is no Bob, but it's still a great time anyway. I got to go with Bob there...woo hoo! By the way, the karate stuff is still on my list. Phil and I just talked about that the other day!

Hey Linds--thanks for a great weekend. And happy birthday--like Laura--sorry I'm a loser. But at least my comment will be better spelled than hers--too bad Lars. And this post was so so funny. I didn't know you ever did a pageant (shhh, me too). We should get together some time and watch the videos. I made Chris sit with me and watch it one time--it's good for a laugh.
