Weekend Wrap-Up

Thursday: The final installment of our things arrived from the states. We had so much stuff that they shipped it to us in three different loads. It just so happened that all of my clothes and the kitchen stuff came last. You know, the most important things. I was so excited to see my crockpot again that I roasted a chicken and we had that for dinner.
Friday: Church bright and early, just me and the boys. Matt had to go to class but met up with us for the 3rd hour. That evening we went to the American School of Doha for a Christmas Concert. James loved it of course and kept saying, "I want to go see the man." and pointed to the male section of the singers. We went up and got a picture with one of them afterwards, just for Jamsey. It was fun to have a Christmas-y thing to do. Outwardly, there are no signs of Christmas here. No snow, lights, songs, decorations, Santa's, or even peppermint ice cream (gasp!). It was nice to see and hear some holiday cheer!

Mosque across the street from the Souq.

Saturday: We met up with some people from church down at Souq Waqif. The 'Souq' means 'shop' in Arabic. This was by far the most foreign experience we have had up to this point. It felt like we went back in time 50 years. We walked around a maze of vendors selling linens, spices, gold, rugs, souveniers, food, perfumes, animals! and lots more. It was amazing. We did a food crawl and got a little bit here and a little bit there. This is a place where price is negotiable so haggling about how much to pay is expected. It was family-friendly and a nice, cool evening. We will be going back there again soon!

Hi Linds! Hi Matt! Looks like a great adventure :). Missing you and hope we can face time soon. I just read your post about the water in the front room and had a good laugh--a week or so ago Millie and her friend Jake got into the vic's vapor rub. It was a disaster, wall, bed sheets, doll, and all over in their hair. And vaseline--it does not come out of hair
