The Dhow Boat Festival at Katara was one of the best cultural events I have attended here in Qatar. I have never seen so many locals in one spot! We walked onto the Dhow's, watched them weave fishing nets and weld anchors, ate dates, and listened to a chant-off among the fishermen in opposing dhows. It was free to the public and we had such a good time. On a whim, I tried the 'spiral potato' and it turns out the boys LOVED them and gobbled it right up. The weather is finally nice enough to get outside, so we are enjoying it!
